This is the shadow of blood vessels. Though we normally canât perceive them, these vessels always occlude a portion of what we see, and for an important reason. They power the retina, a thin layer of nerve tissue in the back of the eye that communicates light signals to the brain. The retina is one of the bodyâs most energetically expensive tissues. Built from complex networks of sometimes more than 100 different types of neurons, retinal tissue consumes two to three times more energy than the same mass of typical brain tissue. Thatâs why most vertebrate retinas, including our own, are furrowed with dense, branching networks of blood vessels: to deliver oxygen and other ingredients for producing energy... [Truncated]",

Muskâwho filed the lawsuit alleging that OpenAI under its current leadership has abandoned its nonprofit mission to build AI that benefits humanity and instead serves to enrich people like Altmanâspent three grueling days on the stand. At times, he lost his temper, as OpenAIâs lawyer, William Savitt, tried to poke holes in Muskâs claims that OpenAI executives teamed up with Microsoft to âsteal a charityâ after duping Musk into donating $38 million in early funding. On Tuesday, Altman did not face such a grilling from Muskâs lawyer, Steven Molo. Instead, Altman appeared jittery at first but steeled his nerves rather quickly. He hopped off the stand after about four hours of rather calmly discussing evidence that heâs hoping shows that Muskâs claims about OpenAIâs for-profit restructuring are disingenuous. Since Musk filed the lawsuit, Altman has insisted that Musk is only after revenge, supposedly stemming from his jealousy that he was not picked as OpenAIâs CEO and that his rival company, xAI, now lags behind. But while the billionaires notoriously no longer see eye to eye, Altman revealed at the trial that he had a rather Muskian moment after OpenAIâs board temporarily o... [Truncated]",

Using supernova observations, galaxy surveys, and machine-learning-based reconstruction methods, researchers found tentative signs that the geometry of the cosmos may deviate from the framework that has guided cosmology for nearly a century. The findings, detailed in papers available on the preprint server arXiv, could point toward previously unknown physical effects shaping the evolution of the universe. A FOUNDATIONAL MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE FACES NEW QUESTIONS Modern cosmology is built on the Friedmann-LemaĂźtre-Robertson-Walker model, commonly known as FLRW cosmology. This framework assumes that, when viewed at sufficiently large scales, the universe is both homogeneous and isotropic. In practical terms, this means matter should be distributed evenly overall and the cosmos should look roughly the same in every direction. The assumption became one of the foundations of the standard cosmological model known as Lambda-CDM, which also incorporates dark matter and dark energy. The new research challenges how accurately this picture reflects reality. Instead of assuming the universe behaves uniformly everywhere, the team examined whether cosmic structures such as galaxy clusters, filaments, and giant empty voids could alter the geometry and expansion of space in measurable ways. Their analyses relied on observational data from the Pantheon+ supernova catalog, the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), and baryon acoustic oscillation surveys that trace ancient density patterns left from the early universe. The researchers found small but persistent deviations from the predictions expected under standard FLRW co... [Truncated]",

Tupy May 13, 2026 6:30 AM Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Flipboard Share on WhatsApp Email this article Bill Maher and Senator John Fetterman on Real Time with Bill Maher, in video posted May 8, 2026. (Real Time with Bill Maher/YouTube) Thereâs a big difference between government assistance and government control. Sign in here to read more. Thereâs a big difference between government assistance and government control. O n last Fridayâs episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman warned that socialism has moved from slur to badge of honor among some Democrats, and that some candidates now go as far as to speak positively about communism â a political and economic system responsible for some 100 million deaths in the last century. Maherâs glib reply was that America, like other Western democracies, is already âquasi-socialist,â because of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. That answer sounds moderate. It is actually a category error. Socialism is not any government program. Nor is it any tax. Nor is it a disability check, a school voucher, or a police department. Socialism, properly understood, means public rather than private ownership or control of property, natural resources, and the means of production. Encyclopedia Britannica defines it as a doctrine calling for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources. Merriam-Webster similarly defines it as collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution. That distinction matters. A safety net inside a market economy, however inefficient, is one thing. Government command over produ... [Truncated]",

We are hosting a community event titled âTogether Under the Same Skyâ in celebration of International Observe the Moon Day. The purpose of this event is to bring together U.S. Forces and JASDF families by highlighting the one thing every person on Earth shares â the sky above us. We would be honored if you would consider providing a short preârecorded video message for this event. Your work in astrophysics and your leadership in exploring bold ideas about extraterrestrial life have sparked global conversation and curiosity (Iâve personally listened to many of the podcasts youâve been on). A message from you would be incredibly meaningful to our community. Many of our militaryâaffiliated children live far from their home country and often miss out on traditional aspects of childhood. Some have a parent currently deployed. Hearing from a scientist who encourages openâminded exploration and critical thinking would inspire them deeply and remind them that their questions and dreams matter. If you are willing, we kindly request a brief message sharing: What inspired your journey into astrophysics and your research on interstellar phenomenaA simple explanation of your current work and why exploring the unknown is importantA few words of encouragement for children growing up in military families overseas Thank you very much for considering this request and for the thoughtâprovoking work you continue to share with the world. Respectfully, Ashleigh Dunn, M.Ed Outdoor Adventure Program Director Misawa AB, Japanâ Below is the message I conveyed in my video. *** All the adults in the world started as kids. They used to be curious and full of wonder just like you. Intelligence without data is worthless. As much as we invest in artificial intelligence (AI), we must in parallel invest in the collection of scientific data that would make AI useful for advancing our scientific knowledge. Life is a learning experience. The more we learn, the better we can adapt to reality. The best way... [Truncated]",

In 2012, the temperature of the Gulf of Mexico began rising along a shocking upward trajectory. Climate change is causing oceans worldwide to warm. But that year, summertime sea surface temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico began heating up at about twice the rate seen in the global oceans. The trend has continued into the 2020s, with sea surface temperatures hitting record highs in both 2024 and 2025. The shift has huge implications for the hurricanes that form in the Gulf â and the people who live along its shores and on the islands that dot its waters. Hurricanes are heat engines that take heat energy out of the ocean and convert it to the kinetic energy of wind. The maximum intensity that a hurricane can reach incre... [Truncated]",

Daniela Amodei, the cofounder and president of Anthropic, knows this more than mostâin 2021, she launched the wildly successful AI company alongside her brother, CEO Dario Amodei, and five other cofounders. And for entrepreneurs looking to replicate that kind of chemistry, Amodei has a trick to find compatible partners. Recommended Video âInstead of starting a company together, go on vacation together,â Amodei recently said during a talk at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. âShare a room with them. Be like, âHow did that go?â And if youâre like, âMan, all I wanna do is spend more time with you,â great.â âIf youâre like, âReally, Iâm gonna need a vacation to recover from my vacation,â it might be the wrong choice,â Amodei continued. The AI magnate says she got âextremely luckyâ with her cohort of fellow founders at Anthropic. And when it comes to picking the best right-hand man, Amodei looks for strong interpersonal relationships. Sheâs known her brother Dario Amodei her entire life, and some of the other cofounders have been in her orbit for 15 years. Plus, the majority had also already reported to her or her brother while they were all working at OpenAI. The Anthropic entrepreneurs thrived off an established framework of how to give each other feedbackâand importantly, she says they knew âwho we were as people.â The only other key component is having a consensus of what the business is trying to do. The mission, dubbed Flight 12, will not only be the first launch of what is collectively referred to as Starship V3, but also the first launch from Pad 2, the updated version of the launch infrastructure supporting both launch and catch capabilities. Starship V3 will also use a new iteration of the Raptor engines, referred to as Raptor 3 engines. âThe flight testâs primary goal will be to demonstrate each of these new pieces in the flight environment for the first time, with each element of the Starship architecture featuring significant redesigns to enable full and rapid reuse that incorporate learnings from years of development and test,â SpaceX said on its website. The flight profile of the mission is similar to previous Starship test missions, in that it will be a suborbital flight. However, because of all the new elements at play, SpaceX will not attempt a catch of either the upper stage, called Ship 39, or the first stage, called Booster 19. SpaceX will have Booster 19 perform a controlled splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico (referred to as Gulf of America by the U.S. Government) about seven minutes af... [Truncated]",

I donât think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,â he said. The war in Iran has continued to drive up energy costs and inflation in the U.S. According to AAA, the nationwide average cost of gas is $4.50 per gallon. Meanwhile, data from the Labor Department released on Tuesday found that the consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.8 percent over the past 12 months and 0.6 percent in April alone. Trump has maintained that gas prices will drop dramatically once a deal with Iran is made, and even proposed eliminating the gas tax on Tuesday as a means of bringing down gas prices.... It describes natural temperature changes in the central Pacific Ocean that alter atmospheric circulation and can greatly influence global weather. Your task is to produce a high-quality curated post using advanced grouping techniques:
- Employ sophisticated thematic analysis: detect latent connections, narrative arcs, opposing viewpoints, chronological progressions, intersections with current events, and deeper conceptual clusters.
- Create 3â7 meaningful, tightly coherent groups (avoid superficial or forced groupings; prefer fewer strong clusters over many weak ones).
- Choose precise, evocative topic names.
For each group:
- Start with "## Topic Name"
- Follow immediately with a classical rhymed and metrical poem (e.g., Shakespearean sonnet, Petrarchan sonnet, limerick sequence, heroic couplets, or similar form) that serves as an engaging, insightful preamble capturing the theme, context, and why it matters now. Present the entire poem in italicized Markdown by wrapping the whole poem block between * and * on their own lines (like a block). NEVER add **bold** around the ## group titles â output them exactly as plain ## Title Name.
- Then list the relevant bookmarks as bullet points:
- **[og_title](url)**: One sharp, engaging sentence description (hooky, informative, and additive; refine og_description or write your own if better).
- If og_image is a valid http/https URL, place the following immediately on the next line (no blank line):

Any true singletons go in a final "## Miscellaneous" section with the same format. // â CHANGED TO ##
Output EXACTLY the complete clean markdown body for the blog post (starting with the first ## header; no extra text, no introductions, no closing remarks, no separators).
