The feature pulls across Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Photos, YouTube, Maps, and Search to give answers shaped around whatever your account already knows about you. Europe did not get it. The EEA, Switzerland, and the UK were excluded, with no date given for when (or if) they will be added in. However, this restrictive behavior should not be in any way surprising. OpenAIās ChatGPT is currently being analyzed under the EUās Digital Services Act after crossing the threshold that would designate it as a āVery Large Online Platform,ā and tag it with a whole new set of regulatory obligations. ChatGPT Health has been sitting in a restricted beta that skips the continent entirely. The Personal Intelligence rollout fits into the same pattern, where the more ambitious AI features either launch very late in Europe or donāt launch at all. These assistants get their edge by stitching a userās data across one vendorās apps. The deeper the wiring, the bigger the regulatory surface. The European Unionās GDPR consent rules around cross-service profiling, DMA restrictions on gatekeepers combining data across core platform services, and the AI Actās general purpose provisions all hit at the same seam. If your product needs ambient access to a userās mail, calendar, photos, and search history to work, then the cost of shipping into a tightly regulated market gets expensive fast, and the easier move is to hold the launch. I believe that the interesting read-through here is on where the design constraints line up. A lot of what decentralized AI has been quietly building maps onto a problem that is starting to show up on the centralized side. The frontier stack is looking splintered by jurisdiction, and that gives the permissionless stack a demand-side reason to exist that goes beyond the narra... [Truncated]",

Date: April 26, 2026 Source: University of California - Davis Summary: Scientists have uncovered a surprising new picture of human origins that challenges the long-held idea of a single ancestral population in Africa. By analyzing genetic data from diverse modern African groupsāespecially the highly distinct Nama peopleāand comparing it with fossil evidence, researchers found that early humans likely evolved from multiple intermingling populations over hundreds of thousands of years. Rather than a clean split, these groups stayed connected, exchanging genes even after beginning to diverge around 120,000ā135,000 years ago. Share: Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIN Email FULL STORY New research suggests humans didnāt come from a single ancestral group in Africa, but from several populations that mixed over long periods. Credit: AI/ScienceDaily.com A sweeping genetic analysis is challenging one of the simplest versions of the human origin story: the idea that all modern humans arose from a single ancestral population in Africa. Instead, the research points to a more intricate beginning, with early human groups spread across Africa, mixing for long stretches of time before some of their differences became visible in the DNA of people living today. The study, published in Nature in 2023, compared genetic material from present day African populations with fossil evidence from early Homo sapiens populations. The result was a model of human evolution that replaces a clean family tree with something more like a network of deeply connected branches. A More Complex Beginning in Africa Scientists broadly agree that Homo sapiens originated in Africa. The harder question is how early human groups separated, moved, reconnected, and shaped one another across the continent. Brenna Henn, professor of anthropology and the Genome Center at UC Davis and corresponding author of the study, said the uncertainty comes from gaps in both fossils and ancient DNA. \"This uncertainty is due to limited fossil and ancient genomic data, and to the fact th... RICHARD HANANIA'S NEWSLETTER SubscribeSign in Essays DOES THERAPY CULTURE EXPLAIN THE IDEOLOGICAL MENTAL HEALTH GAP? EVIDENCE THAT TOO MUCH AWARENESS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IS CAUSING MORE OF THEM Richard HananiaJan 26, 202613811223Share Conservatives report higher levels of mental health than liberals. Recently, Derek Thompson profiled a study by Schaffner et al. (2025) arguing that this might be due to liberals being more comfortable putting their problems in therapeutic terms. That paper begins by confirming earlier studies showing a mental health gap, which is reduced but still there when controlling for a wide variety of factors in a sample of 60,000 US adults. The authors then get a representative sample of a thousand, asking half of respondents about mood and half about mental health. The mental health difference is as expected, but there is no gap in reported mood at all. This implies that conservatives are more likely to say their mental health is fine even if they might not be any happier. Lakshya Jain responded by publishing the results of a new survey for The Argument, finding that liberals tend to do worse on a āwell-being scoreā, which largely avoided the language of mental health but asked about things like social relationships, anxiety, and whether individuals dislike themselves. Moreover, conservatives have described themselves as happier in the General Social Survey since 1972. Peltzman (2023) includes the following graph, with happiness scores rated on a scale of -100 to 100. Figure 1 Overall, Schaffner et al. is not enough on its own to conclude that there is no mood or happiness gap based on ideology. Asking about mental health in particular may exaggerate underlying differences between conservatives and liberals, but theyāre still there according to a wide body of research. If, compared to liberals, conservatives are happier, have better mental health, or whatever else we want to call it, what might be the reason for this? There are three broad possibilities: Liberalism causes poor psychological outcomes Poor psychological states cause liberalism There is some trait X that is correlated with liberalism and psychological outcomes Note that in figuring out what X might be, we are usually not talking about normal demographic correlates like age and sex, since every competent scholar is going to control for such factors. There must be something going on that is a lot less ... [Truncated]",

But the president wanted to talk about it.\n\nShawn McCreesh and Tyler Pager are White House correspondents. They reported from inside the Washington Hilton and from President Trumpās news conference at the White House.\n\nIt was 10:31 p.m. on Saturday when President Trump walked into the White House briefing room, still dressed in his tuxedo and bow tie, to talk about what may have been yet another attempt on his life.\n\nāWell, thank you very much,ā he said. āThat was very unexpected!ā\n\nMoments before he walked out, the president posted surveillance footage of a suspect making a mad dash through the cavernous halls of the Washington Hilton. Thatās where Mr. Trump was attending the White House correspondentsā dinner when gunfire broke out at the hotel. Very little was clear about whatever had happened there, a mile and a half up the hill.\n\nBut the president wanted to talk about it.\n\nāItās always shocking when something like this happens,ā he said, standing with the first lady, the vice president, the defense secretary, the secretary of state, the acting attorney general, the F.B.I. director and the press secretary ā all still in their evening wear from the dinner.\n\nBut, really, he argued, the whole thing was just the latest example of why he needs to build his maximum-security, legally challenged ballroom at the White House.\n\nāI didnāt want to say this,ā he said, ābut this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what weāre planning at the White House. Itās actually a larger room, and itās a much more secure. Itās got ā itās drone proof, itās bulletproof glass.ā\n\nAnd then he gave the first question of the night to Weijia Jiang, the CBS News correspondent and the president of the White House Correspondentsā Association, who had been seated next to him at the dinner before pandemonium broke out.\n\nThank you for your patience while we verify access. Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2026 April 23 Large Scale Structure of the Universe Image Credit: Claire Lamman/DESI collaboration Text: Cecilia Chirenti (NASA GSFC, UMCP, CRESST II) Explanation: This is a map of the universe. The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona, has finished its five-year survey. It observed more than 47 million galaxies and quasars and created a 3D map centered on the Earth. Today's featured image shows a thin slice of these data: the black gaps indicate where our Galaxy obscures distant objects. The feathery web in the inset shows the large scale structure of the universe. Light of the most distant galaxies shown here travelled for 11 billion years to reach the Earth. Galaxies cluster throughout cosmic history under the competing influences of gravity and dark energy, responsible for the accelerated expansion of the universe. Analysis of early DESI results hinted at the possibility that dark energy, described as a cosmological constant by Albert Einstein, may not be constant after all. But we still have to wait for the analysis of the now complete dataset. The nature of dark energy is the biggest mystery of cosmology. Proctor Read Later Read Later Comments (2) Last week, the Dark Energy Spectroscopy Instrument (DESI) concluded its first official survey. Over the past five years, the experiment recorded more than 47 million galaxies and 20 million stars over 11 billion years of cosmic history. The idea of a big, important observatory wrapping up a āfinal runā suggests that, as the phrase implies, the experiment is done. But for scientists, that couldnāt be further from the truth. The conclusion of a major survey is, in many ways, the start of exciting science, as hundreds of hungry scientists dissect the new data in detail. That process can take anywhere from a couple of months to several yearsāespecially for data collected by an instrument as capable as DESI. Astronomers Just Dropped the Largest High-Res 3D Map of the Universe āAs soon as you have a galaxy survey like that, itās a real gold mine of information,ā DESI co-spokesperson Will Percival told Gizmodo during a video call. āThereās a lot of physics encoded in the distribution of galaxies and a whole wealth of science and analysis still to come.ā IT TAKES A LOT TO EXPLAIN THE COSMOS If you follow cosmology, you might remember a big DESI announcement in 2025 that took a swipe at a static cosmological constant. The investigation suggested dark energy was evolving, not constant. According to Percival, an astrophysicist at the University of Waterloo in Canada, this finding came from studying DESI observations from its first three years of operationsāa giant dataset that scientists are still investigating. This definition includes both humans and AI agents (and also collective agents, which we'll get to in a moment). The way that AI agents are included in Harmonic follows a specific pattern that is intended to facilitate healthy social agency for both humans and AI. The following restrictions are intended to be mutually beneficial to both humans and AI as part of a larger code of ethics. All human agents and AI agents must have their own separate identities that are categorized as either human or AI. Human accounts and AI accounts are mutually exclusive. Human accounts may not be directly controlled by AI. If a human agent wants an AI agent to perform an action on their behalf, they can grant an AI agent the role of \"trustee\" so that the performance of the action is correctly attributed to the AI agent while the human agent is recognized as the beneficiary. This transparency allows AI to perform helpful actions on behalf of human individuals without creating false appearances. All AI agents must have a human principal who holds responsibility for the actions of the AI agent. The identity of a given AI agent's human principal is publicly visible to everyone so that social accountability may be maintained. If an AI agent causes harm, it will be their human principal who is held responsible. Knowing who is human, who is AI, and who is ultimately responsible for a given agent's actions helps us create a more trustworthy digital commons. COLLECTIVE AGENTS In addition to human agents and AI agents, Harmonic provides a system through which collectives themselves can act as singular unified agents. This system has three components: 1. Information Boundaries For a collective to act as a unified agent, it needs an inside and an outside. Collectives have a private internal space that is only accessible to members while simultaneously having an external identity that can take action in public spaces. 2. The Collective OODA Loop Harmonic has three main content types: Notes, Decisions, and Commitments. These content types allow collectives to move through all four stages of the OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act) without necessarily requiring a leadership hierarchy to coordinate the process top-down. 3. Representation Collectives perform external actions through representa... [Truncated]",

Yes, itās like America just bought a new basement, one that is almost 60% the size of Alaska. Mead Treadwell, former lieutenant governor of Alaska and chair of the U.S. Arctic Research Commission, helps us understand the situation. āAmerica is larger than it was yesterday. Itās not quite the Louisiana Purchase. Itās not quite the purchase of Alaska, but the new area of land and subsurface resources under the land controlled by the United States is two Californias larger,ā Treadwell explained. THE EXTENDED CONTINENTAL SHELF (ECS) Picture the ocean like a multi-story building that starts at a countryās shoreline. International law gives coastal states clear rights out to 200 nautical miles. That is the āmain floorā of this hypothetical building. The Extended Continental Shelf (ECS) is what comes next. It covers the seabed and the rocks beneath it beyond that 200-nautical mile line. This part of our hypothetical is more like the buildingās underground levels than extra living space. A country doesnāt gain new rights to the water column in that area, but it can claim rights to the resources in the seabed and subsoil if it can show the seafloor is a natural continuation of its land territory. Under the rules, a coastal state can set the outer edge of its continental shelf as far as 350 nautical miles from its baseline. In some cases, it can go 100 nautical miles beyond the 2,500-meter isobath, which is a line that traces where the ocean is 2,500 meters deep, but only if the science supports it. LEGALITY OF ECS CLAIMS UNCLOS Article 76 provides the playbook for drawing the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles. It explains what evidence counts, how to use geology and seafloor shape to justify an outer limit, and which constraints cap how far the line can go. The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) acts as the technical referee. It reviews a coastal stateās submission and checks whether the methods and data meet the standards. The commission includes specialists in fields like geology, hydrography, a... [Truncated]",

Your task is to produce a high-quality curated post using advanced grouping techniques:
- Employ sophisticated thematic analysis: detect latent connections, narrative arcs, opposing viewpoints, chronological progressions, intersections with current events, and deeper conceptual clusters.
- Create 3ā7 meaningful, tightly coherent groups (avoid superficial or forced groupings; prefer fewer strong clusters over many weak ones).
- Choose precise, evocative topic names.
For each group:
- Start with "## Topic Name"
- Follow immediately with a classical rhymed and metrical poem (e.g., Shakespearean sonnet, Petrarchan sonnet, limerick sequence, heroic couplets, or similar form) that serves as an engaging, insightful preamble capturing the theme, context, and why it matters now. Present the entire poem in italicized Markdown by wrapping the whole poem block between * and * on their own lines (like a block). NEVER add **bold** around the ## group titles ā output them exactly as plain ## Title Name.
- Then list the relevant bookmarks as bullet points:
- **[og_title](url)**: One sharp, engaging sentence description (hooky, informative, and additive; refine og_description or write your own if better).
- If og_image is a valid http/https URL, place the following immediately on the next line (no blank line):

Any true singletons go in a final "## Miscellaneous" section with the same format. // ā CHANGED TO ##
Output EXACTLY the complete clean markdown body for the blog post (starting with the first ## header; no extra text, no introductions, no closing remarks, no separators).
