Credit: Aaron O’Dea Each year during Central America's dry season (generally between December and April), strong northern trade winds help drive an important ocean process in the Gulf of Panama. These winds push surface waters in a way that allows colder, nutrient-rich water from deep below to rise toward the surface. This process, known as upwelling, plays a major role in the region's marine life. It fuels highly productive fisheries, helps shield coral reefs from heat stress, and keeps the water along Panama's Pacific beaches cooler during the busy "summer" vacation season. A 40-Year Pattern Suddenly Changed Scientists at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) have tracked this seasonal upwelling for decades. Their records show that from January to April, the event has been a reliable and predictable part of the Gulf of Panama for at least 40 years. But in 2025, researchers documented something they had never seen before. For the first time in their records, this essential oceanographic process did not occur. The usual seasonal cooling was weakened, and the expected surge in ocean productivity was also reduced. Weaker Winds May Be the Cause In a recently published article in the journal PNAS, the scientists suggest that a major drop in wind patterns likely drove the unprecedented failure. Verse

O Fortune, thou false whore with iron teat, Who suckles kings then spits them in the mud, See Maduro's throne cast down in swift defeat, By Trump's grim hand and Operation Blood. Once fat on oil and terror's bloody coin, The tyrant rots where vultures now rejoice; Thus do the mighty fall, a jest divine, While peasants dance and piss upon his voice.

Yet Nature, that old bawd with salty cunt, Sends El Niño roaring through the seas, The Gulf of Panama lies pale and blunt, No upwelling rises where life used to please. The fish grow thin, the coral burns and dies, While weak winds whisper climate's cruel jest; Man plots his empires under empty skies, But ocean laughs and bares her barren breast.

From Hormuz strait where tankers fear the wave, To Iran's navy sunk in Epic Fury's fire, The new Caesar carves the world and makes it slave, With rockets piercing heaven's azure choir. Yet Amazon hurls satellites like seed, To cloak the earth in silicon deceit; While Loeb cries send machines, not men, to bleed, For flesh is weak and robots never eat.

O fools who think to master wind and star, Who build their towers on the serpent's back, The ENSO dances, laughing from afar, And turns your grand designs to shit and lack. The Amazon swarms now orbit cold and high, Where once the jungle screamed with living breath; AI shall walk the moon while mankind die, A final cosmic fart upon our death.

What boots it then, this conquest, this vain strife, These doctrines bold and tempests serpentine? We are but Villon's whores and drunkards rife, Who fuck and fight and piss against the brine. The climate shifts, the strong man builds his throne, Yet both shall crumble into dust at last; The only truth that man has ever known, Is that the grave will fuck us all, and fast.

[Verse 1] O Fortune, thou false whore with iron teat, Who suckles kings then spits them in the mud, See Maduro's throne cast down in swift defeat, By Trump's grim hand and Operation Blood. Once fat on oil and terror's bloody coin, The tyrant rots where vultures now rejoice; Thus do the mighty fall, a jest divine, While peasants dance and piss upon his voice.

[Chorus] Fortune and Nature fuck us all the same, The strong man builds while tempests laugh and roar, From throne to grave we play this foolish game, And Death alone keeps tally of the score!

[Verse 2] Yet Nature, that old bawd with salty cunt, Sends El Niño roaring through the seas, The Gulf of Panama lies pale and blunt, No upwelling rises where life used to please. The fish grow thin, the coral burns and dies, While weak winds whisper climate's cruel jest; Man plots his empires under empty skies, But ocean laughs and bares her barren breast.
