John Fetterman says US 'ideally' purchases Greenland Added: Jan 7, 2026

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said Wednesday that âideallyâ the United States would purchase Greenland to acquire the Arctic territory. âAmerica is not a bully. Ideally, we purchase itâsimilar to our purchases of Alaska or the Louisiana Purchase,â Fetterman wrote in a statement on the social platform X. âAcquiring Greenland is a many decades old conversation,â he added. His remarks align with President Trumpâs push to take over the Danish island despite pushback from officials overseas. âI believe Greenland has massive strategic benefits for the United States. I do not support taking it by force,â Fetterman continued. He previously suggested a similar idea last year, when Trump spoke about taking over the territory years after noting his interest in it during his first term. âThereâs a lot of talk about Greenland, for example, and ⌠thereâs a lot of freak-outs and of course, I would never support taking it by force,â Fetterman said regarding concern from foreign officials on the possibility of U.S. acquisition. He proposed the U.S. focus on âjust buying it out.â âIf anyone thinks thatâs bonkers, itâs like, well, remember the Louisiana Purchase?â Fetterman said and then referred to the 1867 purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire. Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul this week dismissed Trumpâs interest in acquiring Greenland. âI canât stress enough how completely insane this idea is, on so many levels,â McFaul said on MS NOWâs âThe 11th Hour.â Anders Vistisen, Danish member of the European Parliament, also dismissed the idea outright. âI think itâs a signal that the Danish government has not communicated clearly to the U.S. administration that the time where powers can buy and sell former colonies, self-guarding territories is long gone. Itâs not something that is feasible done, and itâs not something that is realistic in any way or form,â Vistisen said during an appearance on CNNâs âNews Central.â âAnd to be frank, I think we in Denmark are quite fed up with this attitude from the U.S. administration,â he added.

Quote of the Day Stephen Hawking: Quote of the Day by Stephen Hawking, 'However difficult life may seem...' - 'A Brief History of Time' author answers the most difficult question of life - The Economic Times
Quote of the Day by Stephen Hawking: "A Brief History of Time" author has spelt ways to rise and succeed in life overcoming all odds.
Quote of the Day by Stephen Hawking - However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. Late British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has made this profound remark. Stephen Hawking sought to explain some of the most complicated questions of life while himself working under the shadow of a likely premature death. In this quote, Hawking exhorted people to strive for achieving success. The scholar here talks about the harsh realities of the life. The quote denotes that there may be hardships in life but one must work with sincerity to overcome those obstacles. If someone succeeds at doing so, there will be reward as fortune favors the brave.Hawking's formidable mind probed the very limits of human understanding both in the vastness of space and in the bizarre sub-molecular world of quantum theory, which he said could predict what happens at the beginning and end of time.Stephen William Hawking was born on January 8, 1942. He grew up in and around London. After studying physics at Oxford University, he was in his first year of research work at Cambridge when he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.Ravaged by the wasting motor neurone disease he developed at 21, Hawking was confined to a wheelchair for most of his life. As his condition worsened, he had to speak through a voice synthesiser and communicating by moving his eyebrows - but at the same time became the world's most recognisable scientist. Almost completely paralysed by a form of motor neuron disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which attacks the nerves that control muscles and gradually stops them functioning, Hawking was wheelchair-bound and used a computerised voice synthesizer to speak.Hawking died peacefully at his home in the British university city of Cambridge at the age of 76 in 2018. Hawking was hailed as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Albert Einstein.Hawking shot to international fame after the 1988 publication of A Brief History of Time , one of the most complex books ever to achieve mass appeal, which stayed on the Sunday Times best-sellers list for no fewer than 237 weeks.Hawking's popular recognition became such that he appeared as himself on the television show Star Trek: Next Generation and his cartoon caricature appeared on The Simpsons . He narrated a segment of the opening ceremony of the London Paralympic Games in August 2012, the year he turned 70.A 2014 film, The Theory of Everything , with Eddie Redmayne playing Hawking, charted the onset of his illness and his early life as a brilliant student.

Sen. Rick Scott: Cuban government will be overthrown âthis yearâ or ânext yearâ

Republican Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), a close ally of President Trump, is predicting the Cuban government will be overthrown âthis yearâ or ânext yearâ as the U.S. blockade of oil exports from VenezâŚ
Republican Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), a close ally of President Trump, is predicting the Cuban government will be overthrown âthis yearâ or ânext yearâ as the U.S. blockade of oil exports from Venezuela is ramping up pressure on the communist Cuban regime. âI think it will probably happen maybe this year, maybe next year. Itâs going to happen. I thought Maduro would be out by Christmas. It took a little bit longer. So who knows when itâs going to happen, but weâre gonna get democracy,â Scott predicted in an interview with NewsNationâs Blake Burman. Scott said the regime of Cuban President Miguel DĂaz-Canel is starting to crumble. âItâs going to be the end of the DĂaz-Canel regime, the Castro regime, itâs going to happen. Weâre in the process of it happening now,â Scott said, referring to intensifying economic pressure on Cuba combined with the threat of a military incursion. Trump recently predicted that Cuba is âready to fall,â noting that Cuban security officers that were backing Venezuelan President NicolĂĄs Maduro died in the weekend U.S. strike on Caracas. âNow, they wonât have that money coming in. They wonât have the income coming in. You know, a lot of Cubans were killed yesterday, you know that a lot of Cubans were killed,â Trump told reporters at a weekend press conference. âCuba looks like itâs ready to fall. I donât know how they â if theyâre going to hold out, but Cuba now has no income,â he said. âThey got all of their income from Venezuela, from the Venezuelan oil. Theyâre not getting any of it.â The United States has imposed an oil quarantine on Venezuela, which the Trump administration plans to use as leverage over the new Venezuelan government.
