Trump confirms secondary physical included MRI, cognitive test

President Trump told reporters Monday he underwent an MRI and a cognitive test during his "secondary" physical at Walter Reed earlier this year. The president did not detail the reason for the MRI, saying the full results were made public and the exam was "perfect." âI got an MRI, it was perfect,â Trump told reporters on Air Force One while en route to Japan. âNobody has ever given you reports like I gave you, and if I didnât think it was going to be good, either, I would let you know negatively,â Trump added. âI wouldnât run, Iâd do something. But the doctors said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports theyâve ever seen.â Trump also revealed he underwent a cognitive test after suggesting the likes of Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) undergo similar exams after suggesting both have low IQs. "You give her an IQ test. Have her pass, like, the exams that I decided to take when I was at Walter Reed," Trump said referring to Ocasio-Cortez. "I took â those are very hard â they're really aptitude tests, I guess, in a certain way." "The first couple of questions are easy. A tiger, an elephant, a giraffe, you know. When you get up to about five or six, and then when you get up to 10 and 20 and 25, they couldn't come close to answering any of those questions," Trump added. The president's comments come after he underwent a medical evaluation for a âsemiannual physicalâ at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier this month. Trumpâs physician Sean Barbabella said Trump continues to "demonstrate excellent overall health.â Barbabella also said the president underwent "advanced imaging, laboratory testing and preventative health assessmentsâ during the visit. In July, Barbabella said the president was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, âa benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70â following an appointment. âAdditionally, recent photos of the president have shown minor bruising on the back of his hand, Barbabella wrote. âThis is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen. This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy.â

Government shutdown may lead to filibuster removal Added: Oct 27, 2025
Republicans may go nuclear to end the shutdown
Site: The Hill
Senate Republicans are considering ending the filibuster to end the government shutdown, which would have devastating and permanent consequences for the country.
Something wicked this way comes. What was once a far-fetched fear is now looking increasingly plausible, even likely: That Senate Republicans will blow up the filibuster to end the government shutdown. This would be the ultimate nuclear option, toppling the last major hurdle to single party rule in Washington. By removing the 60-vote threshold for most Senate votes, the current Republican majority â and any future Senate majority of either party â would be empowered to ram its agenda through without so much as consulting the other party. Despite the dangers, Republicans are openly entertaining it. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) said last week that he is ânot willing to see children in my state go hungry ... over some Senate procedure.â And Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) said of ending the filibuster, âIf we canât get anything done, thatâs what [Democrats] are gonna force.â There are three reasons this scenario is becoming more likely. First, Democrats have no leverage. In any negotiation, leverage only exists when the other side wants something, and President Trump doesnât place a high value on reopening the government. To him, the shutdown is an opportunity to act unilaterally, fire government workers, and save money. Thatâs why he has said he wonât even negotiate until Democrats pass a continuing resolution to end the shutdown. Second, Democratic leaders view backing down as politically impossible. The far left already sees them as incapable of standing up to Trump, and they cannot bear the perception of losing this standoff right as midterm season kicks off. This is why Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has broken with longstanding practice by refusing to accept a clean continuing resolution, potentially creating the very conditions that bring about his worst nightmare: Republicans ending the shutdown on their terms. Third, the real-world impacts of the shutdown are about to get worse. State and local programs like food assistance and public health clinics will begin to shutter. The broader economy will suffer. And with the issue of Affordable Care Act subsidies unresolved, millions will see higher premiums or disrupted coverage just as open enrollment begins. As this happens, public pressure on the Senate will escalate, and the nuclear option may feel like the path of least resistance for Republican leaders. For his part, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) vowed back in January that he would preserve the filibuster during his tenure. But notably, he has yet to reiterate that pledge during the shutdown. Trump has also stayed mum so far, but we know he pressed Republicans to drop the filibuster during his first term and that Senate Republicans have braced for him to make the same demand again. He may soon have his excuse. But going nuclear would have devastating and permanent consequences. Once it has been removed, neither party will have any incentive to reimpose it while in power. The filibuster exists to force the Senate to be what it was intended to be: a deliberative body, the greatest in the world. Eliminating it would destroy the last guardrail that forces compromise and restrains each partyâs worst impulses. Even a narrow carveout to end this shutdown would set a precedent that will be used by future majorities â Democratic or Republican â to ram through sweeping legislation. The resulting policy actions would drive our citizenry further down the road of division and rage. So how do we avert the disaster? We need a Hail Mary play from bipartisan leaders of courage and conviction. It can begin with a coalition of Republican senators and pragmatic House Democrats who have not staked their reputations on an all-or-nothing shutdown fight â leaders like Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, and commonsense House Democrats like Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.). Think back to the infrastructure deal in 2021: A bipartisan group worked in advance to shape the deal as an alternative to Build Back Better, and they were ready to push it forward when all else had failed. We need the same now â a group to begin preparing a credible deal to reopen the government, even if it appears now that there is no appetite for one. That way, when public pressure crests and lawmakers feel the heat, going nuclear wonât appear to be the only path out. A deal will, of course, require compromise. It will mean neither side fully âwinsâ this battle. But it will also mean America doesnât lose through a permanent and irrevocable blunder. And shouldnât that be the goal of both parties? Nancy Jacobson is founder and CEO of No Labels.

Elon Musk's Grokipedia Pushes Far-Right Talking Points | WIRED Added: Oct 28, 2025
Elon Musk's Grokipedia Pushes Far-Right Talking Points
Site: WIRED
The new AI-powered Wikipedia competitor falsely claims that pornography worsened the AIDS epidemic and that social media may be fueling a rise in transgender people.
Musk said last week that he had delayed the launch of Grokipedia because his team needed âto do more work to purge out the propaganda.â When Grokipedia eventually dropped on Monday, WIRED was initially unable to access the website and received an automated message that it was blocked. When we finally got access to it, WIRED found that the online encyclopedia contained lengthy entries generated by AI. While many of the pages WIRED saw on launch day appeared fairly similar to Wikipedia in terms of tone and content, a number of notable Grokipedia entries denounced the mainstream media, highlighted conservative viewpoints, and sometimes perpetuated historical inaccuracies. The Grokipedia entry about the slavery of African Americans in the US includes a section outlining numerous âideological justificationsâ made for slavery, including the âShift from Necessary Evil to Positive Good.â The end of the entry focuses on criticisms of The 1619 Project, which it says incorrectly framed âslavery as the central engine of the nation's political, economic, and cultural development.â Entries for more recent historical events put conservative perspectives at the center. When WIRED searched for âgay marriageâ in Grokipedia, no entry popped up, but one of the on-screen suggestions was for âgay pornographyâ instead. This entry in Grokipedia falsely states that the proliferation of porn exacerbated the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s. âThis marked the onset of what would become a devastating crisis disproportionately affecting gay male communities, where behaviors idealized in pornographyâsuch as unprotected receptive anal intercourse and multiple anonymous partnersâaligned directly with primary transmission routes, leading to rapid seroconversion rates,â the Grokipedia entry claims. xAI did not immediately return a request for comment. The Grokipedia entry for âtransgenderâ includes two mentions of âtransgenderism,â a term commonly used to denigrate trans people. The entry also refers to trans women as âbiological malesâ who have âgenerated significant conflicts, primarily centered on risks to women's safety, privacy, and sex-based protections established to mitigate male-perpetrated violence.â The opening section highlights social media as a potential "contagion" that is increasing the number of trans people. WIRED magazineâs entry in Grokipedia mentions Muskâs own criticism of the publication. âHigh-profile detractors, including Elon Musk in February 2025, have labeled Wired as devolving into âfar-left wing propaganda,â arguing it abandoned technology-focused reporting for ideologically driven narratives that normalize heavy-handed oversight of private enterprise,â the entry says. Grokipedia also claims WIRED is emblematic of the âmainstream media's systemic leftward lean.â The entry for US president Donald Trump also includes a swipe at the media for its allegedly âleft-leaning biasâ in coverage of the ongoing federal government shutdown. It accuses CNN and The New York Times of âamplifying shutdown narratives that attribute blame primarily to Republicans despite bipartisan failures.â (CNN and The New York Times did not immediately respond to requests for comment.) The entries on Grokipedia definitely donât skimp in terms of word count. The Grokipedia entry for âElon Muskâ is just short of 11,000 words, has over 300 website references, and includes sections like âCriticisms of Regulation and Woke Cultureâ as well as âAdvocacy for Multiplanetary Life and Population Growth.â Muskâs Wikipedia entry, in comparison, clocks in at under 8,000 words. Grokipediaâs suggested search terms related to Elon Musk include âElon Musk (disambiguation)â and âElon Musk filmography.â In comparison, when searching Grokipedia for OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the top suggestion on Monday was âRemoval of Sam Altman from OpenAI,â referring to a brief incident in 2023 when Altman was temporarily removed by OpenAIâs board of directors before returning as CEO.
