Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) rejected Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s claim of a “genocide” in Gaza and also called the Georgia Republican “crazy pants.” “Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene referred to what's happening as effectively a genocide. I mean, Republicans seem to start —” a reporter with Scripps News said when talking to Fetterman in a clip posted to the social platform X Wednesday. “I [honestly] don’t care what crazy pants thinks,” Fetterman replied. “And why is that news and her views on that right now?” “It's not a genocide, you know, that's just not the case. And she's entitled to her opinion, but I'm entitled to not really care what her views on that is,” he added later. Greene called the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where there is widespread infrastructure destruction and death due to Israel’s war in the territory, a “genocide” in a recent social media post. “It’s the most truthful and easiest thing to say that Oct 7th in Israel was horrific and all hostages must be returned, but so is the genocide, humanitarian crisis, and starvation happening in Gaza,” Greene said in a post on X Monday. Many on the American left have referred to Israel’s conduct in Gaza as “genocide,” and pressure has been recently ramping up on the country to do more in aiding residents of the territory. The leading international authority on food crisis said Tuesday via an alert that the worst-case scenario of famine was occurring in the Gaza Strip. Former President Obama said on Sunday that “aid must be permitted to reach people in Gaza.” “There is no justification for keeping food and water away from civilian families,” the former president added in an X post. The Hill has reached out to Greene's office for comment.|
